Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council participates in regional emergency management planning activities with local law enforcement, county and state health departments and federal agencies through a New York State Department of Health grant. The grant allows NSHC to provide hands-on assistance to hospitals in their own institutional drills and planning efforts.
As a service to NSHC members, our emergency preparedness director has instructed FEMA certification courses, participated as a test patient in triage and isolation drills during the Ebola crisis, has been an evaluator for mass casualty, point of dispensing and alternate triage drills and has assisted hospitals individually as needed.
