Programs include:
Community Health Advocates Program
This program provides post-enrollment assistance to people using their health insurance by helping them to understand their rights and responsibilities, find and switch primary care doctors and specialists, understand how their insurance works, obtain preauthorization for services, understand their explanation of benefits statements, assist them with service denials and find programs to assist consumers with paying for their coverage. NSHC offers this program as a subcontractor through a Community Service Society of New York grant.
Aged, Blind, Disabled Program
NSHC is subcontracted by the Suffolk County Department of Social Services to provide enrollment assistance in various Medicaid programs for the aged, blind and disabled populations in the Nassau and Suffolk counties. Enrollment occurs at community sites such as libraries, churches, community centers and selected hospitals. Home visits are available on an as-needed basis.
Medicare Telephone Assistors Program
An extension of the Aged, Blind, Disabled Program, the MTA program offers enrollment assistance to Medicaid recipients who are also eligible for Medicare but are not yet enrolled.
